David M. Ewalt is the Editor in Chief of Scientific American, and a journalist, author and speaker. He is author of the books Defying Reality: The Inside Story of the Virtual Reality Revolution and Of Dice and Men: The Story of Dungeons & Dragons and The People Who Play It. He was formerly Editor In Chief of Gizmodo, and an editor for outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Reuters and Forbes magazine.

David M. Ewalt is the Editor in Chief of Scientific American, and an award-winning journalist, author and speaker.

He previously served as Editor in Chief of Gizmodo. During his tenure, the site won an Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting, an NABJ Salute to Excellence Award, and the Society of Professional Journalists’ New America Award. He has also served as an editor at The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, and Forbes.

His most recent book, Defying Reality: The Inside Story of the Virtual Reality Revolution, is an exploration of the history, development and future of the technology. His first book, Of Dice and Men: The Story of Dungeons & Dragons and The People Who Play It, was chosen as one of the best books of 2013 by Amazon.com and by Hudson Booksellers.

He's been invited to speak to world-class organizations including Google, Microsoft, and Sony, and at conferences including CES, Web Summit, PAX, E3, NY Comic Con, Gen Con, and the Amazing Meeting.
